Initially, it was basically detected by user’s review and links algorithms that can tell the page belonging to a website over a particular period of time. With its introduction, several publishers and businesses can easily verify their domains and connect assets to them.

What is Facebook Context Button?

Facebook Context Button is designed to provide more background information about a link shared or published on Facebook. Information such as the page information, feeds, shares, and wiki and WHOIS data.

In 2018 Facebook introduced news publishers to verify their news page on their business manager account which would further display more information on the publisher’s fact checking, ethics, and correction policies.

Additional information may include Editorial Team Info, and ownership and funding Info. You can read the guide on how to register your news pages on business manager.

Why is the Facebook Context button important for your website?

fix facebook page not found in context button

Relax, I would guide you on how to fix the problem step by step so let’s dive in; You need to

  1. Create or have a meta business manager account.
  2. To have an active Facebook page older than 90 days.
  3. A domain (Your Website URL)

For the website URL, you would need to have access to the root folder of that domain, the source code, or DNS records. This would be needed for verifying your domain ownership. Once all the above-mentioned steps are ready you can activate your context button by;

  • Add your page to your business manager account.
  • Locate Brand Safety > Domains and add your website URL.
  • Once your URL has been added, you would see a “Not Verified” status beside it.
  • Select one option (use Upload an HTML file to your root directory)
  • Follow the steps required by downloading and uploading the HTML file to the root folder of your domain.
  • Hit the verify domain
  • Once the domain has been verified move to the ‘Connected Asset‘ tab
  • Click on Add Asset
  • Select your page and click done

The page would appear under your list of the connected assets. Viola! You’re done with activating your context button. Kindly note that changes would take about a week to reflect on your link feeds, I know you’re excited to see it but you have to exercise patience 😉
